Life is so incredibly short. Just a brief puff and it’s over. And of course we all know this. But of all pieces of head knowledge, I think we could argue that this piece, is the piece where the gap between what we know is true and what we feel is true is the largest. We know our lives are short. We know that death is right around the corner. But we don’t act that way. Now someone might actually argue, I do that on purpose. Not thinking about my impending death is a coping mechanism. Why bother thinking about this. Death is depressing so isn’t it better to just ignore it. What good does it do to really bring to mind and constantly remind ourselves that we are going to die. After all, we can do nothing about. Isn’t it true that ignorance is bliss in this regard? In some cases, ignorance is bliss. For example, if your on vacation way up in the mountains and you don’t have cell service and the stock market crashes and lose all sorts of money, it’s better to just not know. It would probably put a damper on your vacation. In that case, ignorance really is bliss. Ignorance is bliss UNLESS the curing of that ignorance can change the outcome. For example, if you knew it was going to crash and you sold everything before it did. That piece of knowledge can make a massive difference. In that case, ignorance is NOT bliss. What Psalm 90 is telling us is extremely simple but if applied will literally change eternity. Here’s Psalm 90 in two short sentences. Your life is short. Make it count. Your Life is Short Let’s start with that first point. Our life is short. So often in the Scriptures the length of our life is laughed at. The most common metaphor is that of grass. The metaphor is used more than a dozen times in the Bible. For example. Psalm 103:15 As for man, his days are like grass; he flourishes like a flower of the field; ” Psalm 103:16 for the wind passes over it, and it is gone, and its place knows it no more. ” Our whole life is compared to grass. And this is written to a people who lived in a desert climate. So don’t think Houston. In Israel, the grass comes charging out of the ground in May and the whole hills are transformed into something that looks like Scotland. But then that same area just a few months later and everything has changed. The idea is that our life comes charging out of the ground in the spring and then by July it’s scorched earth. It’s over so quick and then it’s just forgotten. Nobody laments the loss of…
