Now by way of introduction I want to direct your attention to this guy right here. This guy's name was lonesome George. He lived on the Galopogose Islands in 2012 and he was the very last of the Pinta giant tortoises and his species has sadly gone extinct. You will never ever see this turtle again. He made it from Noah's ark to 2012 and he's gone forever. This is what is called failure to multiply. By contrast, this guy is in no danger of going extict any time soon. The difference between carrying forward a species and the elimination of a species is that species' ability to multiply. Multiplication is what happens when a successful copy of self then multiplies and that copy then multiplies itself and the more times that copy can multiply itself before it dies the more widespread it becomes. All life on earth is dependent on multiplication. And because of that, all life on earth is literally one generation away from extinction. Mulitiplication is no small deal. Now this is not only true physically. It's also true spiritually. Why are we here today? The answer is because the disciples of Jesus Christ were obedient to multiply. They were obedient to the great commission. Paul was certainly obedient. He went from Jerusalem to Salamis & Paphos, Pisidian Antioch, Iconium, Lystra, Derbe in (Acts 13-14) Philipi, Thesolonica, Berea, Athens Corinth (Acts 15-18) Ephesus, Troas (Acts 18-21) Collosea, Crete And then these new believers were also obedient to the great comission and despite the severe persecution, and providentially, even because of that persecution, those churches began to multiply. And tens of thousands of Christians began to open their mouths. And that newly formed faith spread like wildfire. Under Constantine it became the official religion of the Roman Empire. In 33 AD there was maybe 1,000 Christians, in 100 AD maybe 25,000 Christians, 300 AD something like 6 million Christians and roughly 10% of the Roman Empire, in 350 AD, approximately 33 million Christians over 50% of the Empire. After Rome fell, the monastic orders carried the gospel into Northern Europe, while the Byzantine Empire pushed it into Russia. Then during the Age of Discovery in the 15th–17th centuries Spanish and Portuguese explorers carry Catholicism to the Americas and Philippines. Then during the Great Awakening and 19th-century missionary societies the gospel was preached in Africa and Asia bringing us to . And then in 1973 a man by the name of Johnny Miller sent out this publication for the start of Cypress Bible Church And immediately, what did they start doing? They s…
