Acts 1:12-26 | A Season of Transition Acts 1:12-26 | A Season of Transition In Idaho, where I grew up, there's a little quaint town up in the mountains maybe only a 1000 people and there's a theater that we love to go to called Starlight Mountain Amphitheater. It's outdoors. You have the crisp mountain air and the spell of pine. And we just love. Well at this theater like any other theater, there is a great show and about halfway in between, you get the intermission. You've been engrossed in this play and then all of the sudden everybody gets up and goes and grabs and snack and talks and then 10 minutes later you are back into it. And on the surface, it's kind of strange. But it's been part of the plays since they began. And the purpose of the intermission is to kind of give the viewers a break. There's been lots of intensity and laughs and drama and you don't even realize you need it. As odd as it seems to just get up in the middle of a high intensity drama, you welcome it. In a lot of ways our passage for today functions as in interlude between the OT era and the NT era. Jesus has ascended. He's given the great commission but the power of the Holy Spirit has not come. They are in a holding pattern. They are waiting. They know what to do but they don't know how to do it. That's a pretty common experience in life isn't it. We almost always feel this way in seasons of transition. Making a career choice. You go from high school to college. I know that I am supposed to study but I don't know what college or what field to study? Maybe you graduate from school. I know that I am supposed to work but nobody is hiring me. When is that going to happen? Maybe you want to get married. I want to do but I'm in a holding pattern. I can't just wish a spouse into existence. Maybe you want to have children. We are trying and can't. Should we wait. Should we adopt? Should we do infertility treatments? These are common feelings. You have what feels like direction and certainly desire from the Lord but you don't have the timing or the specifics. You are waiting. You are in a season of transition. You feel unsettled. You feel uncertain. Your familiar anchors are missing. What do you do in times like these? That's what our text is all about today. What do we do personally or as a church when we are in times of transition or uncertainty? Here's the answer of our text today. A biblical church remains healthy by prioritizing three things: Obedient Unity, Scriptural Authority, and Prayerful Discernment. Now this seems like a really obvious point but I actually think this is incredibly profound. We've all heard the phrase paralysis through analysis. And what that's referring to is the psychological condition in which we get anxious about a decision and we don't know what to do…
