Acts 1:6-9 · Missions. Acts 1 Review — sermon from Cypress Bible Church on BibleSlides.
Acts 1 Review Acts 1 Review We were reminded of our church's history pointing out that we were positioned in this Houston suburb 53 years ago for a specific purpose: getting the gospel to the last remaining people groups on the planet. For you personally, how does it change your perspective of our local church to know we are directly connected to global movements like the church in Nakui? In Acts 1:8, Jesus wasn't just giving a command, but making a declarative prophecy of how the gospel will go to the ends of the earth. We observe a guiding principle to us that it isn't about hitting a specific date or filling a quota, but about dispersion and the gathering a Bride from every scattered language group. How does shifting our focus from "running out the clock" to "seeking out the isolated" change how we view God's heart for the world? Cross Reference Passages Genesis 12:1-3 - What is God's revealed purpose for the people of the earth? Isaiah 49:6 - This is a prophecy of the Messiah. How far-reaching is the Messiah's redemptive work? Acts 2:1-12 - How did the Holy Spirit's work in this passage prepare the church to disperse and accomplish the Messiah's prophesied redemptive work? One of the most challenging lines from the sermon was: "Don't assume someone else is doing it." People groups like the Sowanda and Umeda have waited years, even decades, begging for someone to come. Where do you think we, as believers, are most tempted to assume someone else is handling it? Do you assume someone is handling it in global missions, in our church, or in our neighborhood? We were challenged with the phrase that we were made for more than just "eat, drink, and be merry." Remembering that Acts 1:8 says, "you will be my witnesses" , what is one area of life (your workplace, your neighborhood, your family) where you want to step out of the "eat, drink, and be merry" cycle and live with missionary intentionality this week? Cross Reference Passages Deuteronoomy 6:6-7 - Commit time this week to family Bible reading and prayer Colossians 3:23-24; 2 Thessalonians 3:10-11 - How does the way you work "season" or give flavor to your words in the workplace? Mark 12:28-34 - What is a way in which you will love your neighbor as yourself this week?
