Acts 3:1-11 | Acts 3:1–10 A Miracle to Confirm the Word Acts 3:1-11 | Acts 3:1–10 A Miracle to Confirm the Word Review We are in the book of Acts and it's so important, especially when we are in narrative portions of the Scriptures to get the context. Always remember when you read something in the Bible, there's a LARGE story going on, above the SMALL story in front of you. There's a NEAR context and there's a FAR context. By way of analogy: When you board a plane and get on a plane, there's a small, local NEAR context in which you exist while on the plane. You are talking with people, there's drinks that are being served. You can get up and walk around. I mean, that's kind of your little micro world. But then if you zoom out, to the backyard of a suburban neighborhood, there's some kid standing on the ground pointing at you and saying "Dad look at the plane!" and there's cars rushing around and birds singing and a whole context there into which that plane fits and you on that plane are entirely unaware of it. But then you can zoom out further and then there's the astronaut from space whose looking down on planet earth. And that view from SPACE swallows the plane and the little kid and the car and the entire country and the ocean. And none of those people are aware of how they fit into that context. God is where that zooming process ends. He sees all. There's a purpose for all. There's a plan in all. There are billion little stories that all fit into the great story. Both views are essential. There's lessons we learn in the micro stories. But it's also part of the grand story. And today we want to make sure we do justice to both. We want to see the macro and the micro. So let's start with the macro. The Macro The Macro view is that God is redeeming mankind and he knows exactly how he's doing it and it's largely hidden from us. To return to our analogy, that's the Macro big picture from SPACE. Now if we zoom in a bit we can get the Macro big picture from EARTH. We have a sense of how that's happening. God revealed to us in the OT a high level plan: When Messiah comes, Spirit Comes, Kingdom Comes. And we know our little story somehow fits into that big plan. We can sense that this world is messed up and Messiah will come and restore all things. This was the expectation of 1st century Jews. And it was in every sense and in every way completely legitimate. That's what the OT taught. But this is NOT a complete picture of God's plan. It's all true, but there's more than meets the eye. We call this progressive revelation. Progressive revelation is the idea that as God reveals more, it doesn't CONTRADICT what was previously revealed. But it does change the way you understand it. For example, If I gave you a prophecy. You might assume that it was the great ba…
