Acts 3:11-26 | Acts 3:11–26: Confronting the Culture: Peter’s Second Sermon Acts 3:11-26 | Acts 3:11–26: Confronting the Culture: Peter’s Second Sermon Introduction I actually want to begin this morning with a reminder of our church theme for the year. This year we are focusing on the fact that Cypress Bible Church exists because people previous to us were faithful to obey the great commission. Your eternal destiny has forever been changed by the fact that the gospel was shared with you. And the same command of Jesus that a previous generation obeyed that brought that gospel to you, applies to us this morning. We are being asked to carry the Gospel, the good news out into the world. We are SENT not by this church. We have been sent by God. This isn't our mission. This is his mission. In the same way that someone else helped make us disciples of Christ we are to go out and make disciples. Not this church. Us as individual Christians. We are to make disciples. God has given us such a wonderful gift and we need to share it. Now we've talked about a strategy on how to do this. So I just want to encourage you. Pray for 3, continue to get to know them, start asking them questions, invite them to your house for dinner, invite them into your life, invite them into your home. Now one of the reasons this is difficult for us to do is because we don't want to be salesy about our faith. You can see areas of repair and patchwork which makes us an absolute target for door to door roofing companies. I mean we just get hammered week after week after week. And I just get so tired of trying to kindly reject those offers. And one of the fears I have of sharing my faith is that people will feel about me like I do about roof salesman. Why Offense? Here's an important question to answer. Why is it that people might reject the gospel? Why is it that many good people are offended by Christianity? It would seem that a message that is based on "Good News" would be welcomed and loved by everyone. The angels that came to the shepherd's in the fields gave an incredible announcement. They said, "I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people." How could you not like a religion that is based on good news of great joy for all people? That's incredibly positive. That's incredibly inclusive. What is there not to like? What is it about Christianity that is offensive? And the answer is this: for GOOD news to be GOOD news there also has to be BAD news. For a Savior to be a Savior, you have to have something you need saved from. And if you don't agree that there's something you need saved from then here's the deal: the good news B…
