Condemning The Innocent Slideshow for this message PDF Message Download So we have been many months in this noble endeavor to understand the 3.5 year ministry of Jesus Christ through the eyes of Mark. After a year and a half long study we are in the final weeks of this sermon series. And I don’t have to tell you but this the most difficult part of the story. It’s heavy. It’s full of solemnity. And some of our stage setup here and our music choices are reflecting that. By the way, next Sunday is Palm Sunday but we aren’t going to do the typical theme and rewind to the triumphal entry. We are just going to keep marching forward in the text. This year, on Palm Sunday we’ll be looking at Jesus on trial before Pontius Pilate. And then we will come to Good Friday. And by the way, please be there. How can we not come together for Good Friday? What do you possibly have going that is more important than Good Friday? The entire Christian faith, your personal ability to enter into eternity with God in heaven, hinges on the death of Jesus Christ on a cross. We must prioritize this on our calendars. So that’s 6:30 on Friday. But then we round the corner and we get to celebrate the resurrection! And I think this year, it’s going to be so special for us since we’ve spent these many weeks in the text with shadow of the cross bearing down upon us. Perhaps more than usual we can really feel it. We have sat in the suffering and rejection of Christ. Which is just going to make the resurrection so sweet! Listen, last week we prayed for the Holy Spirit to bring to mind people who you might invite to the Easter service. We printed 250 cards and almost instantly ran out of them. Praise God. There’s a whole stack back there now. Now it’s one thing to take the card. It’s another thing entirely to hand them out and actually have a conversation and invite. And just to be clear: that’s the important part. I want to pray for those people right now. Peter Jesus once asked Peter, “Do you know who I am?” Peter nailed the answer. you are the Christ, the Son of the Living God. The Holy Spirit revealed that to Peter. We call that Peter’s great Confession. It was out of that great confession that Jesus renamed Peter, Cephas which means rock and said upon this rock I will build my church. That’s quite the compliment. To be called a rock means you have strength, you are immovable, brave, not affected by storms that normally destroy weaker and lesser things. Today we are going to observe Peter, Cephas, The Rock, the one who boldly confessed Jesus as his Lord, the Son of God, the Messiah, we are going to see this man crushed into particles as he denies before a slave girl what he confessed before the creator of the universe. Peter the rock, pulverized into a pile of sand. Peter, the sand pi…
