Driven to a Choice Slideshow for this message PDF Message Download Call to Worship The gospel of Jesus Christ is an exclusive message. Jesus said I am the way the truth and the life. No man comes to the father except through me. What sets Christianity apart from all other religions is that it is a great confession of total inability. It is not Jesus + my performance. It is not Jesus + my morality. It is not Jesus plus my best efforts. It is not Jesus + my good works. No. The gospel of Jesus is this Jesus + nothing = everything. It is at once both ghastly expensive and at the same time completely free. On the one hand, it costs you everything. You have to tear down everything you’ve built your life upon and trusted. You have to abandon and turn your back upon everything you’ve ever hoped in for your righteousness. But on the other hand you receive in return infinitely more than you ever gave up. Matthew 13:44, ““The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field, which a man found and covered up. Then in his joy he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field.” There is only one way. Jesus Christ. We sell everything to get that treasure. And there could not be a more glorious treasure. Let’s sing to him. Introduction We are back in the book of Mark today and I hope you can feel as we’ve been traveling through the life of Christ the drama that is building. It’s the greatest story in human history using virtually any metric. The drama centers around this question that everybody is asking, “Who is this Jesus?” And you know, nothing has really changed in 2000 years. We have to wrestle with the same question. When you read the gospel of Mark it kind of forces you to pick a side. It’s not really possible to stay neutral. If you walk away from the book of Mark hating Jesus, in one sense that’s good because at least you understand what he’s claiming. If you walk away worshiping Jesus, then of course that’s way better because you’ve found the greatest treasure in the world. But if you walk away thinking well, I’m not sure what the fuss is all about. Jesus is good role model but not sure I see much else. Well, then clearly you haven’t interacted with his words because that’s not a possible conclusion based off of what he has said. Love him or hate him, but please don’t just like him. Now early on in Jesus’ ministry it is understandable why a person would have just liked him. It’s understandable why they would have had this neutral opinion. Everyone was trying to figure it out. Almost everyone liked Jesus. But what we are going to see today is Jesus won’t let them stay there. He’s driving them to a choice. So our outline today is under two headings. You have The World (and its various opinions of Jesus) and then you have the wedge. Jesus wedges…
