Heart of Heresy Slideshow for this message PDF Message Download In philosophy, one of the most fundamental questions a person can ask is this: What is the good life? This is not a religious question. It’s a human question. All humans want to know what I need to not just SURVIVE but to thrive. What conditions need to be met such that I wake up not just with my heart beating but my soul beating. How do I increase the QUALITY of my life? How most American’s answer that question and how the Bible answers that question are very different things. In fact, almost everything claimed in the Bible about LIFE is opposite that of the American Dream. LIFE according to the American Dream is the pursuit of possessions. LIFE according to the Bible is the pursuit of a person. I am the resurrection and the LIFE. I am the way the truth and the LIFE. In Him was light and the light was the life of men. I am the bread of life. LIFE according to the American Dream is to build your own name and your brand and your identity. LIFE according to God is to glorify His name and his brand and to find your identity in Christ. Christ said if you want to GAIN your life you have to lose it. This is not a small issue. The Connection Here’s why this is so important: Paul in this passage is going to call out these false teachers. And he verbally just lashes them. I mean, he’s not holding back. These guys are: puffed up with conceit depraved of mind deprived of the truth You don’t read this and go, Paul, stop beating around the bush. Tell us what you really think!? He’s verbally excoriating these guys. Now why is Paul so upset? Answer: because they are teaching a DIFFERENT DOCTRINE. But what specifically is that different doctrine? What false thing are these false teachers teaching? What is the incorrect CONTENT? When I hear “DIFFERENT DOCTRINE” I think, “Okay, they are attacking the trinity. There is some sort of an attack on the substitutionary atonement.” But as we read the text we are going to see that the DIFFERENT DOCTRINE is REALLY preaching A DIFFERENT LIFE SOURCE, they are preaching that by…
