Lord of the Law Slideshow for this message PDF Message Download Call to Worship The reason we start our service with the youth event from last week is because the gospel is the good news that passes from one generation to the next. There were faithful gospel preachers who preached to young people in the 1920s and 30s and those kids grew up and they were faithful to proclaim the gospel to young people in the 1960s and 1970’s and those kids grew up and were faith to proclaim the gospel to young people at the turn of the millennium. And now those kids have grown up and are today’s preachers. From one generation to another. So I’m talking to students in the room. Your job is to take the gospel forward into the world. You will carry the torch. You will penetrate the culture in ways the previous generation could not. And what will your message be? It’s what we sing about every week. Psalm 89:1-4, I will sing of the steadfast love of the LORD, forever; with my mouth I will make known your faithfulness to all generations. For I said, “Steadfast love will be built up forever; in the heavens you will establish your faithfulness.” You have said, … ‘I will establish your offspring forever, and build your throne for all generations.’” Let’s sing of the STEADFAST LOVE OF THE LORD, the gospel message that speaks to every nation, every culture, every age, all-people. Let’s set our affections on the person of Jesus Christ. Introduction What would Houston look like if Satan took full control of the city? Hear a surprising answer by Donald Gray Barnhouse. *Barnhouse said that if Satan took over Houston, all the bars would be closed, pornography would be banished, and pristine streets would be filled with tidy pedestrians who smiled at each other. There would be no swearing; the children would say, “Yes, sir!” and “No, mam!” and churches would be filled every Sunday … where Christ would not be preached. You see, Barnhouse is saying something very, very important, something that ought to scare us; Here it is: the greatest threat to the Gospel is not swearing or loss of conservatism or immorality. The greatest threat to the gopsel is a counterfeit gospel, one that looks like the gospel, sounds like the gopsel, appears to be the gospel but in fact is NOT the gospel. Let’s illustrate it this way. When the Bible talks about counterfeit gospel’s it often comes through the mouth of false teachers which the Bible calls wolves in sheeps clothing. What do you think of when you think of a wolf in sheep’s clothing. This is the picture that often comes to my head. And we think, man, scary, be on the lookout for that guy. Look at the sharp teeth. I’m dead in a matter of minutes. The hair on the back of your neck stands up. But that’s not at all the Bible’s idea of wolf in sheep…
