Nehemiah 8:1-8 · Discipline, Trust. Securing the City of God — sermon from Cypress Bible Church on BibleSlides.
Securing the City of God Nehemiah 8:1-8 (Securing the City of God) Well, as I said, the flow of the service today is just slightly different. Normally we sing most of our songs up front and then have a closing song. But in the text today we read of the opposite happening. Ezra the scribe preaches the word and it is out of the preached word that they respond. So we are going to pattern our service of the format we see in the text. We are going to sing two songs before the service and three afterward as a way to respond to the preaching of the word. So stand with me as we begin with worship! Paradigm Shift Today it is my hope that your life will change forever. I don’t care how you came in today. You may have come in excited. You may have come in bored. You may be here against your will. I don’t know how you came, but I hope you leave changed forever. I’m talking to every single person in this room. I’m talking to those who have been Christians for longer than I’ve been alive I’m talking to Christians who are hot, luke warm and cold. I’m talking to brand new Christians. Everyone was forced to grapple with this new way of acquiring information. Well I was young and an early adopter of technology. I could instantly see the benefit of the internet and I knew that the internet had changed the world. My paradigm had completely changed but my actions had not yet caught up. For example, I loved to work on cars. And prior to the internet and you tube and all that, the way you figured out how to set the timing on your car was to go to the library and checkout a book that taught you how to do this. You needed information you got in LIBRARY MODE. I remember one day, needing to fix something, I got in my car and started driving to the library and about half way there, I realized, I bet the manual is online. And I flipped my car around in 1998 and I haven’t been back to the library since. When it came to my HABITS of acquiring information, my mind was internet-aware but my HABITS were still in LIBRARY MODE. My Information-gathering habits hadn’t updated to match what I knew to be true about the world but once they did I was changed forever. You…
