And of course, it’s not a matter of if you suffer. It’s just a matter of when. Suffering comes in many different forms. There is physical suffering from disease. Many live their entire lives with some sort of chronic pain. Or maybe it’s an accident. A very good friend of my kids in Boise in his early 20s had a ski accident this past winter and he was paralyzed from the waist down. Or maybe it’s the suffering associated wtih cancer or arthritis or alzheimers But that’s not the only type of suffering. There’s relational suffering which can sometimes be much worse. Betryal in a relationship or repeated sin against a person that destroys trust. Lying. Martial unfaithfulness. Watching a son or daughter walk away from the Lord, or choosing a same sex relationship, or having a child outside of marriage or making poor decisions that you know will wreck their entire life. Or a person falsly accusing you or slandering your reputation Or it could be a financial suffering. Your entire portfolio vaporizes through no fault of your own. Or you loose a job Or the market conditions change and the buisness you built your entire life all of the sudden becomes irrelevant. Suffering is inevitable. The older we get the more suffering is likely. Most will suffer the most right before they die. Former pastor Joe Wall, went to be with the Lord yesterday. We praise the Lord for his faithfulness and the legacy that he has left us. But no question, he had to suffer. Suffering is difficult. And the Bible does not pretend to promise that if you just turn to Jesus, if you pray to him in a certain way, he will fix all your problems. That’s not the message of the Bible. God is not a genie in a bottle that we rub and now he’s under obligation to do our bidding. But there is a promise of God that we are given that will completely change our perspective in suffering. And we are going to see it in our text this morning. So if you have a Bible turn to Mark chapter 4. Review We are back in our study of the book of Mark and if you were not here last week or you are newly joining us in the study, I really encourage you to listen to the message online from last week as we did a high level overview of chapters 1-4. Get yourself up to speed as to where we are in the story. It’s really important. Now if you remember we are in what is sometimes called, “The long day” or “the busy day” because is you pay attention to the time markers starting in chapter 3:20 all the way to the end of chapter 5 it is a single sequence of events. That day started when Jesus casts out the demon possessed man born both blind and mute. And that was signific…
