Nehemiah 13:4-14 · Obedience. Why is the House of God Forsaken? — sermon from Cypress Bible Church on BibleSlides.

Why is the House of God Forsaken? Nehemiah 13:1-14 (Why is the House of God Forsaken) Last week we talked about repentance as a change of mind. It’s a different way of thinking about God’s commands. The first word of the great commission is go. When it comes to global missions, CBC has been great at this. Last year our missions budget was $486,800 which doesn’t even include the salary above and beyond that that we devote to a missions pastor. That is incredible. But you know how much we spent on local missions? 0.06%. Now to be sure local missions will always cost less than global missions. Why? Because it doesn’t cost money to talk to your neighbor. That being said, it does say something. We need a change of mind. We need to be thinking about local missions the way we have traditionally thought about global missions. If you were a missionary in Mongolia, what would you do? Would you wait for someone to enter into the doors of your Yurt? You would go to where they are. The mission begins when we leave our huddle here in the locker room and we go out into world and onto the playing field. If you are a follower of Jesus, you are on the field. There are no sidelines. This involves everyone and the mission is everywhere. So last week we introduced our 3-2-1 strategy for pointing people to Christ. Some have asked, why isn’t it one two three. Why do we have it in this shape? The answer is you need to visualize this as a funnel. This really is a funnel. You have lots of people in level three, fewer in level two, and fewer still in level 1. But we are always working all the relationships as God give us opportunity and trying to funnel them down in to the point where you can introduce them to Jesus. In level 3 we are building relationship and learning FACTS ABOUT them. In level 2 we are building connection and understanding their STORY. And in level 1 we are introducing people to Jesus and helping them to see that He is their greatest NEED. Last week we ended our service with a testimony. This week we are going to begin with one that is going to focus on giving you some ideas on how to do this. The goal of the next few minutes is to hear what Bart has to share and it really is my goal that you would be inspired and say, “I can do that.” Please welcome up Bart Salmon. Introduction Now there’s a reason in the text that we began with a testimony today. Let’s think through where we are in the book of Nehemiah. We are in the last chapter of the book. The book begins in Persia with Nehemiah as cupbearer to King Artexerxes. He requests permission to go back to his homeland and rebuild the city walls. And in God’s abundant kindness, he is granted favor. He leads 10s of thousands of Jews on a 900 mile journey…
