Bible text won’t load

When a verse slide stays on Loading.

A Bible Verse slide loads the chapter from the Bible text service. Until the words arrive, the setup window can say Loading verse... and the slide can say Loading.... Wait for the words before you click Create Slide. A reference with an empty body is a hard thing to find on the projector.

If the request fails, the slide shows Failed to load chapter or Error: and the reason.

What to check

  • The network. The text comes through BibleSlides, not from a file on the laptop, except for an old ESV slide. ESV is not offered for a new verse slide. A deck that already used ESV can still show it from the ESV text shipped with the app. Other translations need the connection.
  • The reference. If the passage cannot be parsed, fix the reference before you blame the network. Teaching starter says “Enter a scripture reference” when it cannot read one. The verse window is the same idea: a reference it cannot read will not fill in.
  • The translation. The choices are the translations on the account. If one translation stays empty and another fills, switch translation and see if the words appear. Then you know the passage is fine and that one text source is not.

File → Make available offline stores the chapters the deck already uses, so those verses can show without the network later. A brand-new reference still needs the network the first time. See Presenting offline.

Plans

Bible Verse is on the Free plan. A loading verse is not a crown and not an upgrade. SnappyBible, the sidebar lookup, is paid. The verse slide is not. If the slide says Loading and the sidebar says Upgrade, those are two different tools.
